Blossom Educational, are one of the proud sponsors of the Swimathon 2018 held in Porbandar, India. This is a 2-day annual event recognised by the Swimming Federation of India and is organised by the Shree Sea Swimming club, established in 2001.
The event is run by a large group of high profile individuals, authorities, coastal guards and many others on a voluntary basis. The club membership is irrespective of cast, creed, religion, social status and even ability. At present, the members range from 6 to 80 years of age all of which are avid swimmers. This year, a record number of 380 people took part in the competition, travelling from all over India to compete. Over the course of event, the participants compete in 1000m, 2000m, 5km and 10km races.
Following the races a ceremony takes place to award the winners with prizes for their triumphs. In recent years the swimming club has been able to bring together athletes with a range of disabilities, including impaired muscle power, impaired passive range of movement, limb deficiency, leg length difference, short stature and hypertonia. This allows them to compete safely in the secure hands of highly trained coastal guards creating what is one of the greatest events in India.
But we didn’t stop there! For us, regular meals & education are the norm – for others, they are an opportunity. Empowered by the ethos of the UK’s Childcare & Educational sectors, over the past few months Blossom have been providing Coaching Classes for Children in deprived areas within India.
“Professional teachers & coaches have been specially selected to carry out over and above class room education, athletics & sports training. At present, about 65 children are in these coaching classes and soon, we intend to extend and provide healthy snacks” – Thakrar Family & Harshit Rughani.
Below are a selection of photos of the charitable work that has been carried out over the last few months. We have made a terrific start supporting over 100 children this winter and we hope at Blossom, we can continue to make a difference no matter how small.
