Curriculum for funded non-maintained nursery settings
(Cwricwlwm ar gyfer lleoliadau meithrin a ariennir heb eu cynnal)
Part of the Curriculum for Wales, this framework is an option for funded non-maintained nursery settings ‘to adopt should they wish to do so’ (hwb.gov.wales).
With a focus on the Welsh language and helping children develop a sense of ‘cynefin’, this curriculum was designed separately by the Welsh government to foster greater adoption of the wider Welsh Curriculum in nurseries outside of the Local Authority’s control.
Included in this curriculum are five developmental pathways split into 64 statements, while reflecting the principles of progression and encompassing the mandatory Welsh Curriculum elements. The five pathways are as follows:

- Belonging
- Communication
- Exploration
- Physical Development
- Well-being
If you’re a Blossom customer in Wales this curriculum should already be available to you for linking to child observations, but if it isn’t you can simply send a message to support@blossomeducational.com with your nursery name and one of our team will be happy to do that for you.
Developmental pathways 0-3
(Llwybrau datblygiadol 0 i 3)
Following the same five areas as the above curriculum, Developmental pathways 0-3 focuses on what’s important for children’s development and allows practitioners to support children to grow and develop.
Each grouping of statements in the five pathways is split across each of the three years, referred to by the Welsh Government as Here I am!, I’m exploring! and Look at me now!, but for simplicity we’ve simply set them as the 12 month periods they cover: 0-1, 1-2, and 2-3.

As above, if you’re a Welsh setting and don’t have this framework turned on already, contact Blossom Customer Support who’ll be able to turn it on in an instant.
Blossom Pathways
Designed with the help of SEND experts, Blossom Pathways is our brand new SEND-supportive framework for those children who are on their own unique learning pathway.
We’ve built it to be as inclusive as possible without excluding any children who may or may not fit perfectly into one of the other government-supplied frameworks. Using some different areas of learning and more granular statements with the familiar Emerging, Developing and Secure stages, we believe this unique-to-Blossom framework will work in specialised settings as well as more general ones.

Rather than use the same 7 Areas of Learning and Development found in other EYFS frameworks, Blossom Pathways has slightly different ones allowing for more unique child journeys. They are:
- Communication and Language
- Understanding
- Speaking
- Physical
- Health, independence and self-care
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Thinking
We’ve also removed age ranges from these areas so as to not exclude children who might otherwise be seen as ‘behind’.
Using this framework is completely optional, and it’s designed as complementary to the other frameworks you’ll be familiar with. If you’ve any SEN children in your setting, now’s a great time to explore their unique pathway with Blossom by your side.
Blossom Pathways is available on request.
