Activity 3: Retell the Story with Props

Set up a story tray with small toy animals, a box, and a pretend letter. Let children use the props to retell the story, sending animals back to the zoo and finally keeping the “perfect” pet.

Another version of this is to give each child a stuffed toy version of the animals from the story (lion, giraffe, elephant, snake etc.). When you reach that animal, ask the group, ‘Who has the [animal]?’. This gives the children the opportunity to listen, wait and follow instructions.
